Suffolk County Community College Offers the HSE/GED preparation program for those seeking to earn a high school equivalency credential.
Preparatory classes are available to students who are 17 years of age and older. Courses enable students to prepare for the GED, earn a high school equivalency diploma, improve educational skill levels and increase employment opportunities. The instruction and classes are specially designed and customized for the student’s skill level. Students work at their own pace with instruction in an individual or small group setting. Three-hour classes, which meet twice a week, offer instruction in subjects that include; social studies, reading, English, math, and science.
Preparation Course Information:
Suffolk County Community College offers online and in-person HSE preparation courses on all three of our campus locations: Riverhead, Brentwood, and Selden. We offer classes during the summer, spring, and fall semesters. Our program consists of 90 hours of instruction covering the four subjects that are needed for the GED exam.
HSE/GED Application Process
Suffolk County Community College is an official test center for the New York State GED exam. Currently we hold testing on our Michael J. Grant Campus, 1001 Crooked Hill Rd., Brentwood, NY 11717. You must register for the exam through www.ged.com. You will not be permitted to take the exam unless you are registered and confirming your date through www.ged.com.
Application R
Another pathway to help you achieve your HSE is the Application R. You may use regents credit earned from passing scores on qualifying regents examinations toward the New York State high school equivalency diploma. You can find more information at New York State Education Department.
