Clinical Medical Assisting

This course prepares students to understand the role of the medical assistant. Students will learn how to assist the physician with the examination of patients and aid in diagnostic testing and procedures, such as, taking vital signs, phlebotomy and specimen handling, taking EKG, and other diagnostic procedures. Students will be able to explain the foundational concepts of infection control and patient safety. They will also be able to identify abnormal signs and symptoms, set up an examination room, prepare a sterile field, and complete the clinical intake process, including communicating the reason for the visit.
